This Is America 2023

5 Points Art Gallery + Studios’ fifth annual This Is America exhibition reveals riveting visual art journals of intimate to ominous experiences, time-lapsed moments, along with the history of objects and objectification. Opening Friday, June 30, 2023, 6-9 p.m. this popular group show holds true to being a critical and unfiltered fine art demonstration that empowers artists of color to showcase, elevate and document their independent truths and transgressive responses to current and historical times and reflect upon their lived American experiences.

Wisconsin-based, national, and international, This Is America’s exhibiting artists represent expansive territories, identities, languages, cultures, artistic approaches and influences. Featured works are equally diverse in scale and subject matter, including but not limited to mixed media compositions, acrylic paintings, film, photography, conceptual installations, collage, assemblage sculptures and more, sharing with the audience the dynamism and distinctiveness of their personal life entries.

Exhibiting artists include: Darrel Melvin Payne (Milwaukee, WI), Emmett Williams (Albuquerque, NM), Frank D. Robinson Jr. (Memphis, TN), Kevin Boatright (Milwaukee, WI), Kahlil Kasir (Palatine, IL), Komikka Patton (Charlotte, NC), Kottavei Love (Atlanta, GA), L. Kasimu Harris (New Orleans, LA), Luther Wright (Washington D.C.), Muneer Bahauddeen (Milwaukee, WI), Nia Wilson (Milwaukee, WI), Rhonda Gatlin-Hayes (Milwaukee, WI), Rhonda Gray (Chicago, IL), Sam Kirk (Chicago, IL), and Trey Miles (Charlotte, NC).

These unwritten, but uniquely crafted works remain on display until August 27, 2023. Artist talk will occur at 7 p.m. (CST) opening night.
